The Girl Who Got Up!

To my amazement, it is easier to do prison time than it is to overcome the long-term effects of low self-esteem, and fear. Every opportunity, every thought, everyday is seasoned with thoughts of what I cannot do. Low self-esteem is the third degree burn left by the lie, which is the incinerator, that manifests itself in a defeatist mindset. Whenever I try something, and fail, the heartache is palpable. I hear a voice that utters,  “I told you that you could not do it.” Whenever I do not try something, I hear a voice that taunts, “You’re never going to do it!”

The voice is that of my inner bully. I carry it around all day long and it is hyperactive to say the least. The only way I can shut the voice up is with the word of God. Oh, and by the way, I was not born with this inner bully. Satan purposely, deposited a lie that grew into a voice that once caused the most self-destructive of behaviors. Now I understand why I jeopardized my life the majority of my adulthood. The inner bully convinced me that I was not worth life despite the fact that God gave it to me. Today, I call the voices bluff. If the voice says I’m inadequate, I look for evidence.

I  itemize, not just my successes, but my God-given ability to bounce back after a failure. I am not inadequate; I am the antithesis of inadequacy. In fact, anyone who can take a hit and bounce right back is more that adequate, they possess GREATNESS. Years ago, God informed me that I would be great, and work in the church. The enemy’s job is to keep me from my purpose. He was counting on me to believe the lie that I am dumb, incapable of growth, less than, weak and et cetera to keep me from walking in my God-given calling.

Unbeknownst to Satan, God programmed me to win. Ha! So even after a setback, your girl gets up. When it looks like I can’t win; your girl gets up. When trouble is on every side, you know, I’m getting up! To back this up biblically, I will provide several scriptures that not only show that Satan’s strategy is to defeat us, the scriptures will elucidate the fact that this is his primary goal. We are made in God’s image; therefore, extraordinary. As God’s people there is nothing that we cannot do with Jesus Christ ruling in our lives. Additionally, I will give some tips on how to fight the invisible war, and not lose ground.

“Then I heard a loud voice shouting across the heavens, “It has come at last–salvation and power and the Kingdom of our God, and the authority of his Christ. For the accuser of our brothers and sisters has been thrown down to earth–the one who accuses them before our God day and night.” Revelation 12:20 Two things to note here, not only does Satan accuse us; hence, the guilt we often feel, he is ornery enough to accuse us before God day and night. Also, realize the “day and night” aspect of the scripture, this means that he never stops.

Suddenly, my anxiety makes sense; I am being accused day and night. Remember, his goal is to keep us from our purpose, and ultimately from following God. If you are accused, and do not fight back, you feel guilty, fearful, and anxious; who could strive for greatness under those conditions? Next, consider this the next time you want to play nice with the devil, Luke 22:31 denotes, “Simon, Simon, Satan has asked to sift each of you like wheat.” After watching a clip of wheat sifting, I gather the enemy desires to shake us, break us down, and ultimately divide us.

Convinced? I am. From our tender developmental years unto death, Satan is strategizing how to defeat us by sowing seeds of fear, doubt, shame, guilt, self-hatred, pride, jealousy, unforgiveness, and the like. He is patient as well. He will wait for us to self destruct. This is why I GET UP! God is greater than Satan, “You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world.” 1 John 4:4

Okay, so we know the war is real, God is greater, but how do we fight?  We fight and win, by believing and using the word of God. See its Satan’s words, lies, that try to defeat us, and it is God’s words, truth, that gives us the victory. In Hebrews 4:12 we learn,” For the word of God is alive and powerful. It is sharper than the sharpest two-edged sword, cutting between soul and spirit, between joint and marrow. It exposes our innermost thoughts and desires.

Here we see God’s word compared to a double-edged sword. Why would we need a sword? We need a sword to fight, and not just any sword, the sharpest two-edged sword. This sword is necessary to cut through the thick lies, war during attacks on every side, and guard the faith within. When fighting it is imperative not only to repeat, replay, and recite the word of God; you must believe it.

That’s right, you have to with every part of your being, BELIEVE God. Afterall, if we once believed lies from the enemy without any solid evidence, how much  more should we believe the word of God which is infallible, unchangeable, prophetic, and proven from generation to generation?

As for the girl who got up, she is going to keep getting up, and eventually, get knocked down less. For now, my brothers and sisters, GET UP & WAR!
