The Good News, Perverted

We absolutely must prayerfully approach the Word of God, searching, ingesting, and applying, asking for full understanding from our Lord. Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.” 2 Timothy 2:15

Disconcerted, I have become increasingly aware that the gospel is being polluted and believers are following after those who tweak the Word of God for their own benefit, but this is not new. We have a clear warning against such false prophets in 2 Peter 2: 1-3

“But false prophets also arose among the people, just as there will be false teachers among you, who will secretly bring in destructive heresies, even denying the Master who bought them, bringing upon themselves swift destruction. And many will follow their sensuality, and because of them the way of truth will be blasphemed. And in their greed they will exploit you with false words. Their condemnation from long ago is not idle, and their destruction is not asleep.”

How do we know if someone is not coming from a biblical perspective in totality? The Spirit of God, our God-given wisdom, and the Word of God are the illuminators of false teaching. To typify how easily one can be misled by a preacher who omits portions of Gods’ word to bring themselves glory, I will use myself as an example. Innocently enough, I was following a particular blog that was very powerful but something did not feel right in my spirit. Aspects of the Word that speak about sin, hell, and judgment, must not have been printed in this individual’s bible. Actually, the teachers of these one-sided, fictitious gospels, see what we see in our bibles, yet for convenience, fame, and material gain ignore portions of the gospel.

We must watch and pray, or become prey, as our enemy does not care if we truly love God, he will use any device or strategy to drag us away from a relationship with the Father, into an empty man-made gospel. “Watch and pray that you may not enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.”” Matthew 26:41 The flesh wants to hear, “You will be rich in 7 days!”, “God does not care about repentance- you have grace!”

I started to notice that there was something missing in his or her posts, so I did some research. What was missing? Jesus, hell, sin, repentance, and condemnation were MIA, instead, there was an abundance of abundance teaching, also known as prosperity preaching, grace2 doctrine, justly called hyper-grace teaching. As with most lies, you know the really good ones, there is some truth sprinkled here and there. Brothers and sisters we are called to be as innocent as doves yet as shrewd as snakes.

“Look, I am sending you out as sheep among wolves. So be as shrewd as snakes and harmless as doves.” Matthew 10:16

I earnestly pray that the body of Christ rebuke and resist false teaching on any level from anyone. Whether it be a televangelist or a local pastor of a small church. God warned us of these pseudo-ministers of the gospel; therefore, we are responsible for warring, guarding, and protecting the truth that we were freely given. The gospel of Jesus Christ must be protected in us against those who have been perverted by sin towards the Word and Ways of our Magnificent God.

“With all these things in mind, dear brothers and sisters, stand firm and keep a strong grip on the teaching we passed on to you both in person and by letter.” 2 Thessalonians 2:15

“It is this Good News that saves you if you continue to believe the message I told you–unless, of course, you believed something that was never true in the first place.” 1 Corinthians 15:2

Father, I go to church and used to pay my tithes

Why do you reject me? After all my strides

I know you not, blasphemer of My Word

The way you walk is contrary despite what you heard

But, Lord, the Pastor said, ” All that matters is grace and wealth!”

Pleasing to my ears, yet damaging my spiritual health

How can I be made clean again in your sight?

Repent, turn from your sin and walk upright

There is not much time left, rebuke your tickling ears

Even if that means lacking popularity amongst your peers

I am patient child but you know what’s really true

Avoid false teaching, patched doctrine that always misconstrues

Daddy, I love you, I’ll never leave again

In the name of Jesus,

Amen

  1. Very good post. We need to hear both the Lw and the Gospel and not just what we want to hear.

Exactly, I was terrified when I realized I was following a hyper-grace blog. Thanks for your consistent support Mike!

I totally agree. Even from the pulpit, there’s very little talk of hell. It is so real. I was raised in the church so I heard it often. But these days, the realness is missing. And although I know how real Satan and hell is, I tend too focus more on God and Heaven. I think maybe there’s so much hate in the world, we see Satan up-close and more personal that I try to kill him with kindness. Negativity really gets me down and that’s what Satan wants.
Thanks for such a great post! 🙂

Thanks Laura! I was almost too timid to post because I do not know everything about the false teaching tactics, but I know enough to stay away from them and God placed it on my heart to share with the body of Christ. Thank you for your encouraging words!

So many false teachings out there, The feel good stuff. Happy go lucky. I honestly listen to it because it’s encouraging when it comes to living in the world and down deep, I know the difference. But some people don’t realize the truth. I try to teach as much God and Jesus in my everyday posts to where it raises questions and my most reason one has. I have a follower who said, “the Bible is a fairy-tale.” 😦

Amen! I will be in prayer for that individual. The bible is so real that when speaking and believing what it says, mountains move, demons flee, chains are broken.

Amen! So true! I have noticed this as well – and even without prosperity gospel, there seems to be a general shrinking away from talk of sin. However, there is no good news without sin in the first place. May the Lord keep His people faithful and give us the strength to stand against the devil’s schemes.
