Suffering for the Right Reasons

It stings when we realize that the trail from our current position to our destiny is riddled with detours, stumbling blocks, and pitfalls. Even with the best navigation system, we are in for quite the trip if we do not faint along our travels with the Lord, and we know it is all working for our good (Rom 8:25). Often, we expect the route to God’s purpose for our existence to be seamless only to find that it is the most jarring experience known to man. The journey is meant to shake the very core of our being until the old us is deceased. Ridding ourselves of the former self is only a part of the story. There are tests along the road which confirm that we are truly committed to the cause of Christ. Some may find that they were more commercial in that they were eager to monetize their anointing. Others could see how they put God on mute to hear more applause from the crowd. They may notice that most their ministerial decisions were based on the sound of the applause. Then there are those whose spiritual gifts of preaching, teaching, evangelizing and such have become their god. These individuals often assume the position that the spiritual gift originated in them. Forgetting that it was Jehovah Elohim that deposited the gift in them. This individual may base their salvation on their performance.

Phew!! After overcoming those pitfalls either by going through them one by one or learning from the mistakes of others and heeding the Holy Ghost, we are ready to take another destiny step. Then uncertainty pleads for us to remain in our current state because of the unpredictability of our success because many have tried and failed, because we’ve failed before, and most of all because we’re just plain scared. The road is not without many twist and turns. There are dangers lurking around every corner, but God is with us. We can sojourn to the next level. If we talk down to fear instead of allowing fear to talk big to us, we will see that we’ve come through a many of struggle just like this one. If this journey was easy we would not remember it. How frequently have believers doubted that God was working in their lives because the road was hard? I am hard-pressed to find anyone in the Bible who followed Christ, made an impact in the kingdom, serving well, who did not suffer. Why is it that we think suffering means that we are always doing something wrong? No, sometimes we are suffering because we are on the road to our destiny.

  1. Yes it for sure does “sting” as we journey through. The only comfort we can find at those times is knowing, as you said, that He is right there with us.
